2008-May-20 - Bruno Mathsson and his home furniture (hem möbler).

One of the most renowned furniture designers of his time was Bruno Mathsson.  Bruno Mathsson was born in Varnamo in the year 1907 and here the man was born into a family of people who had worked with wood for many years.  It is said that because of this Bruno Mathsson became quiet the designer of home furniture(hem möbler).  His father actually not only worked with wood but he was a prominent cabinet maker in their village.  This trade of cabinet making and home furniture (hem möbler) making had been going on in their family for four generations before his father making Bruno Mathsson a six generation home furniture (hem möbler) maker.  His entire childhood was spent working around wood and wood work shops so that the tools of the trade became second nature to him.  Bruno  Mathsson was around the tools of his home furniture (hem möbler) making trade the way that any other child would be around a playground.

Not only was he even talented as a child but Bruno Mathsson also was thirsty for knowledge of many sorts. He was completely fascinated with not just the home furniture (hem möbler) making but also the technical aspect of the home furniture (hem möbler) making.  As a teen he began to find any books that he could on the subject and flooded his brain with the knowledge that it so craved.  By borrowing many books from museums and other designers he would also start to create some friendships that would last a lifetime.

When designing home furniture (hem möbler) later on he would discover that the conventional chair did absolutely nothing for him and so he began to design chairs (stol) that would not use springs or cushions but instead use the streamlined designs and also designs that could be moved and adjusted for comfort.  These chairs (stol) were so advanced for the time that Bruno Mathsson actually kept them in storage for a while until he had made a name for himself as a home furniture (hem möbler) designer.  After he won an award the Grand Prix design award actually in 1937 at the Paris Expo he felt a little more comfortable taking out his hidden designs.

One of Bruno Mathsson’s most famous designs of home furniture (hem möbler) would have to be the Pernilla chair (stol). Not only did Bruno Mathsson design chairs (stol) but also tables (bord).  One of his most famous tables (bord) would be the Fallbord table.  This table (bord) can be folded and unfolded to make a table of many varying sizes. It is the perfect design for a table (bord) for small spaces and the perfect table (bord) for large spaces and any size in between. This table (bord) was designed in the year 1935 and is still today produced and is one of the most popular pieces of home furniture (hem möbler) that comes from the brilliant mind of Bruno Mathsson.

Bruno Mathsson not only designed and built many beautiful pieces of home furniture (hem möbler) but also he created pieces of home furniture that would withstand time and their designs are just as popular in today’s world as they were when they were created seventy years ago.  Bruno Mathsson was able to keep his home furniture simple in design and beautiful all at the same time.  This man was a wonder to see work and was dedicated to the design and mechanics of how his home furniture worked. It is said that at one time he actually sat in the snow to see the shape that his body left as an impression in the snow so he could better understand his furniture.  Bruno Mahsson died in 1988.

2008-May-14 - Furniture (möbler) from Yngve Ekstrom.

Many homes in the 20th century have been decorated in a style with plenty of Swedish furniture (möbler).  Swedish furniture (möbler) has been a very strong influence in so many of the styles that have not only decorated homes over the years but also many businesses and offices. One of the many furniture (möbler) designers that helped bring the Swedish furniture (möbler) into the light of the decorating world would have to be Yngve Ekstrom.

Yngve Ekstrom was a man of Scandinavian decent and plenty of talent. He came from a city called Hagafors, a city that has had the longest history of furniture making.  Yngve Ekstrom studied design and wood crafting.  He also studied art history, drawing and sculpting during his schooling.  After years of study Yngve and his brother Jerker started their own company called Swedese in the year 1945.  This company has become one of the most respected furniture (möbler) making companies in the entire world. They produce many modern furniture (möbler) creations and amazing pieces of furniture for many years now.  The company designed many pieces of furniture (möbler) that consisted of very clean lines and utilitarian construction.  There were plenty of homes and offices that used his furniture designs during the 1950’s and the years of the 1960’s.  only to come back in style again in modern times.

In the year 1956 Yngve Ekstrom created what is known as the Lamino chair (stol) and in the 1999 the chair actually was named the “best Swedish Furniture (möbler) Design of the Century” and in the year 2003 the chair (stol) was given the I.M.M. Cologne Award for the best design.  Yngve Ekstrom had designed many pieces of furniture (möbler)  that has all deserved some kind of award or prize.

The Lamino chair (stol) is an amazingly designed piece of furniture(möbler).  It is today available in many different natural colors like gray, brown, white, sand or your basic black.  These natural colors go very well with the natural wood colors that are also used in the chair (stol).  The woods that are used in the chair (stol) design would be beech, walnut, oak, teak, or cherry. You can mix and match any colors of the natural sheepskin with any of the colors of the natural wood for a wonderful piece of furniture (möbler) that you will absolutely love.

Even after all of these years since Yngve Ekstrom first designed the magnificent piece of furniture (möbler) people still would love to own it.  The design of this particular piece of furniture (möbler) is just simply timeless.  When people desire the modern look they instantly think of Swedish furniture (möbler) and that is for many good reasons.  The simple lines and designs of many of the Swedish furniture (möbler) designers gives people exactly what they are looking for and with a chair (stol) like the Lamino chair it is hard to not instantly want to own this great piece of furniture(möbler).

The Lamino chair (stol) is something that whole heartedly inspires people to enjoy the simple beauty in life and for those that do not understand how someone can be inspired by a chair they have never seen the Lamino chair (stol).  If you have ever even been interested in Scandanavian furniture (möbler) then you should allow yourself to see this wonderful specimen of furniture (möbler) design.  Discovering the basics of this chair (stol) will help you find the desire to use a modern style of furniture (möbler) in your own interior designs.  So if you are looking into any kind of furniture (möbler) design or interior design know that the Lamino chair (stol) would be a wonderful addition to any room.

2008-May-9 - Pernilla 2 and Pernilla 3 furniture (möbler) designs.

In the world of furniture (möbler) design there are plenty of different styles that a person can truly enjoy. Not only are there many different styles of furniture (möbler) but there are also many different designers of that furniture (möbler).  Through different times and through different eras there have been furniture (möbler) designers that were very popular and then faded away after the moment was over and then there are some furniture (möbler) designers that stayed the test of time and even after the moment was over continued on their path of furniture d(möbler) esigning and had great success.

One such furniture (möbler) designer was Bruno Mathsson.  Bruno Mathsson is truly loved and admired by the best of furniture (möbler) designers.  His Scandinavian furniture (möbler) designs gave many people the ability to enjoy the simplest of pleasures, relaxing in a really good chair.  He was not only a man that could make a phenomenal chair or piece of furniture (möbler) but he also an architect and a renowned one at that.  He started designing buildings in the 1930’s and had much success while doing so.  Bruno Mathsson also designed some great pieces of furniture (möbler)  and during the fifties and sixties many people knew his work well.

Two of his most famous furniture (möbler) designs are the Pernilla 2 chair (stol) and the Pernilla 3 chair (stol).  The Pernilla 2 chair is an easy chair (stol) and the Pernilla 3 is actually a lounge chair (stol).  The way that the human body would fit in a chair (stol) was important to Bruno Mathsson and so it showed in his chair (stol) and furniture (möbler) designs.  It is said that at one point Bruno Mathsson actually went out into the snow and sat down so he could see the shape that his sitting position left.  He was very focused on finding the most comfortable sitting positions for his furniture and he did.

The Pernilla 2 chair (stol) is an easy chair (stol) that has organic lines and provides the perfect natural sitting position for many people.  You can get this chair (stol) with padded armrests and pillow like headrests or you can get the chair (stol) with out the padding.  Either way the Pernilla 2 chair (stol) is very comfortable to sit in.  in the Pernilla 3 lounge chair (stol) you can feel the same comfort as in the Pernilla 2 chair (stol) but with a much more luxurious feeling to it.  With this lounging version of the Pernilla 2 you will find the padding through out the chair gives it a true relaxing feeling.  And if you so desire to cover the chair with a natural Australian sheepskin you may as well plan to do a lot of sitting in your chair for you will never want to get up from it.

When a person has some good pieces of furniture (möbler) you can tell.  Through out the years there have been many good pieces of furniture (möbler) made but Bruno Mathsson seems to have put out many, many wonderful pieces of furniture (möbler) throughout his life time.  Some of his designs are even copied by other to this day.  There are also some legitimate copies of his designs that are being used today and people absolutely still love them.  Scandinavian furniture (möbler) is a wonderful type of furniture (möbler) design to enjoy. Even though many pieces and styles of furniture (möbler) are designed and become popular and then fade away, the Scandinavian style of furniture (möbler) has stayed true to form and many people continuously purchase it.  If you enjoy the simple structure of Scandanavian furniture then looking into Bruno Mathsson’s designs will be a pleasurable experience for you.

2008-Apr-27 - Eero Aarnio and his many chair (stol) designs.

One of the greatest Finnish furniture designers was a man by the name of Eero Aarnio.  Eero Aarnio was born in the year 1932 and is probably best known for his Finnish furniture design of a chair (stol).  This chair (stol) was called the “Bubble Chair” (stol) and anyone who was around in the sixties, or enjoys retro furniture design, or is a fan of Austin Power movies would have seen this chair plenty of times and never really know of its origin.

The bubble chair (stol) is made of plastic and fiberglass.  The bubble chair is actually Eero Aarnio’s take on his own Ball Chair (stol).  The ball chair did not let in enough light he felt so he created the bubble chair (stol).  The bubble chair is made of transparent material so it lets light in from all directions and allows the occupant to feel very isolated yet at the same time not isolated at all.  He has said that the reason the bubble chair hang from a chain in the ceiling is because there is no “nice way to make a clear pedestal” and so the bubble chair (stol) had to be hung from the ceiling.

His first chair (stol) design the ball chair (stol) sits on a pedestal and is also a hollow sphere that is open on one side and allows someone to get into the chair (stol) by this opening.  This version of his chair (stol) is still quite imaginative and fun.  Both the bubble chairs (stol) and the ball chair (stol) come with cushions for the chair (stol) and are really quite comfortable.

A few others of Eero Aarnio’s furniture designs include the Pastil Chair (stol). This chair (stol) is very similar to a solid inner tube.  There is also the Tomato Chair (stol).  This chair (stol) is a more stable version of the chair and also has a seat between three spheres.  His Screw Table is a table (bord) that looks like a big screw that has been screwed into the ground.

Throughout the sixties Eero Aarnio’s furniture designs were very popular.  He had made an impact on the fashion of furniture design.  You can not see a movie that is based in the sixties or see a period piece without seeing at least one of his designs.  He believed in function and fun as is easily seen by any of his furniture designs.

Eero Aarnio studied furniture design from the year 1954 to the year 1957.  He studied at the Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki and in the year 1962 he started his furniture design career with the ball chair in the year 1963.  Through his use of plastics and fiberglass he has made some incredible furniture designs and he is today still desigining.

He has recently designed a new room designer that is called the tree.  This room divider is actually shaped like a giant tree and is quite beautiful to look at with its creative and original look.  Many of Eero Aarnio’s furniture designs are used still today and even though he is still currently designing many people remember him best for his furniture designs of the sixties.  You can find many of his furniture designs in plenty of museums such as the Franz Mayer Museum in Mexico City.  In many buildings his bubble chairs are used in lobbies as a place to give people a place to use their cell phones in a “quiet” space.  With so many accomplishments Eero Aarino has shown the world time and time again that he is quite the talented furniture designer.

2008-Apr-21 - Hans J. Wegner and his furniture (möbler) designs.

The 20th century gave way to so many different furniture ( möbler) designers.  These talented people opened many doors into what is now known as Swedish modern furniture ( möbler).  The years between the fifties and the sixties were the time when many of the Swedish furniture ( möbler) designers came up with some of their most amazing ideas and actually created many of their greatest designs.

This is also a time when furniture (möbler) design was turning a corner and it was perfect for these brilliant Swedish furniture (möbler) designers to step into the world of furniture ( möbler) designers and come out on top.  Men like Alvar Alto, Bruno Matthson, and Hans J. Wegner among many others were what we today call pioneers in the furniture (möbler) design industry.  Many of these brilliant geniuses did not limit themselves to only furniture(möbler).  They would dabble in other industries as well, creating a number of things.  Some of the furniture (möbler) designers were in fact known to design some very famous buildings and design many types of lamps and all types of furniture (möbler).

Hans J. Wegner actually became very well known for his chair 25 that was created in the year 1950.  This famous chair was built from many different types of woods and the back of the chair and the seat of the chair would be made of rope.  The rope on the seat of the chair 25 and the back of the chair would be woven into the seat and the back. On the chair 25 the front legs of the chair would be straight and these front legs would bear the majority of the weight.  The back legs were angled and the odd design would actually allow a greater stability than any other chair of its type.  The sides of the chair is actually one continues piece of wood that is curved and makes up the majority of the chair.  This was a big stretch for furniture when it was first created and Hans J. Wegner was the visionary mind that was able to design such a wonderful piece of furniture.

Hans J. Wegner was born in the year 1914 in Denmark and he was a graduate of the Danish Modern School of Design.  He had a very simple design system and used many clean lines to design and create some amazing furniture.  Throughout his career he designed many chairs (stol) and also designed beds, cabinets and also tables (bord).  He was a very talented man that had a very creative mind and was able to design plenty of wonderful furniture that is still in use to this day.

One of Hans J. Wegner’s claims to fame would be that during the presidential debates of 1960, Kennedy and Nixon were seated in some of his chairs. This man was the ideal furniture designer of his time and made a number of things that people loved.  Throughout his life he did many wonderful things and worked under some very talented people.  In fact he worked under Erik Moller and Arne Jacobsen who were both masters of their trade. Even though he created many pieces of furniture through out his life he would consider chairs (stol) to be his favorite thing to design.  They were not only a functioning piece of furniture but Hans J. Wegner also would consider his chair (stol) furniture designs to be as a work of art and not just furniture.  They were as sculptures to him and he was their creator.  Up until his death in the year 2007 Hans J. Wegner worked and designed plenty of furniture.  He will be missed yet remembered well.

2008-Apr-14 - The Fällbord and the man who made it.

Bruno Mathsson is a name that is very well known in many circles across the globe.  In furniture circles and art circles alike his name demands respect and admiration immediately from those who know his work.  Bruno Mathsson is very well known across the world for not only his very innovative and yet comfortable classically designed chairs (stol) but also for his beautiful glass houses that had designed and amazingly enough these houses are designed to be very well insulated.  Not only has Bruno Mathsson designed glass houses and chairs (stol) but he has designed a number of wonderful pieces of furniture such as desks, daybeds, and a series of tables, the most famous being the Fällbord.

To understand the greatness that is Bruno Mathsson’s furniture designs one has to understand where it is that Burno Mathsson has come from.  He comes from a long, long line of furniture designers and furniture makers. In fact it was five generations of these wood workers that first inspired Bruno Mathsson to start in the same field.  When he was just a boy he would help out in the wood working of his family, learning the trade before he even knew what he was learning.  Seeing and becoming familiar with the wood itself, the tools, and the special techniques of wood working all helped develop Bruno Mathsson into what he later became.

To enhance his knowledge of other things like designing buildings as far as the technical aspect of it and also the engineering he sent away for books.  He did this because in his small town there was not really any other way for him to quench his thirst for his interest in these fields.  By reading the books that he sent away for and talking with experts in these fields Bruno Mathsson set up a very secure net of mentors and associates that would help him through out his career and his life.

From this brilliant man came many amazing designs and one of the most popular would be the Fällborde.  This table (bord) would allow you to fold it very small and then when you needed to unfold the table (bord) to a much larger size. The Fällbord can fold to a mere 23 cm and when unfolded it can become as large as a banquet table (bord) at 280cm when it is extended to its fullest capacity.   This table can be folded and unfolded and there can be leafs added or taken out and used in any size.  This was a truly genius design of furniture and especially a table (bord).  This table (bord) allows for an immense flexibility in the size of the table (bord) and allows it to be the perfect table for any room, any occasion, and anything that you need it to be.   Many believe that the Fällbord was based on a certain type of folding Swedish table  Bruno Mathsson truly took the Fällbord to the next several levels of furniture design.

This lovely table (bord) was crafted from natural woods such as birchwood and the top would be a laminated white.  Later on the Fällbord would be made from other popular woods.  Woods like beechwood, ash, oak, cherry and other fine woods were carefully used to craft one of Bruno Mathsson’s greatest furniture designs.  Using different types of wood would allow many people to enjoy the Fällbord and its diverse uses.  This table (bord) is truly one of his finest works of art and is still sold in many stores to this day.  Over sixty years has only made this table (bord) more and more desired.

2008-Mar-25 - Finnish Furniture

When you are discussing Finnish furniture (finska möbler) with anyone you cannot exclude the great Alvar Aalto.  Alvar Aalto was an amazingly brilliant Finnish furniture designer and architect.  He lived from February 3, 1898 until May 11, 1976.  He lived a long and profitable life and is still sometimes called the “Father of Modernism” in many Nordic areas.  His genius not only created Finnish furniture but also buildings and plenty of glass items as well.

Alvar Aalto was born in Kurotane, Finland and studied at the Helsinki University of Technology between the years of 1916 and 1921.  Here he studied architecture.  While through out his career Alvar Aalto was considered a pioneer in his field in truth he based many of his designs off of other designers that came before him.  Men like Gunnar Asplund and Sven Markelius were both friends and also pioneers that Alvar Aalto shared many great ideas with.  All of the Nordic designers of that time found themselves starting out in a traditional or classical Nordic design style and then found themselves moving toward modernism.  At the time it just seemed like a natural progression.

Alvar Aalto himself had too many achievements to name through out his life.  It is just very suitable to call him accomplished.  But of course you must name a few of the things that he did just to get an idea about the man.  In the year 1932 he created a new kind of laminated bent ply wood.   He created his own company along with his wife Aino Aalto, called Artek.  Here many of his Finnish furniture (finska möbler) designs are manufactured to this day.  On the fact of the buildings the man created there is a very long list indeed. In the year 1921 he created the bell tower of Kauhajarvi Church in Lapua, Finland.  In the years 1924 to 1928 he worked on the Mucicpal hospital in Alajarvi, Finland.  In 1926 to 1929 it was the Defence Corps Building in Jyvaskyla, Finland.  In 1927 to 1935 he worked on the Municipal Library.  The list goes on and on.  For over fifty years Alvar Aalto worked on and contributed to many architectural aspects of many, many buildings.

His achievements in Finnish furniture (finska möbler)and also glassware are also very vast.  In the year 1932 he created the Paimio Chair (stol).  The following year in 1933 he created and designed a three legged stacking stool 60 and also the three legged stacking stool E60. In the years 1935 and 1936 he designed an armchair 404 also known as the Zebra Tank Chair (stol).  In the fifties he worked on many lamps such as the floor lamp A805 and A810.  One of his most famous designs in glassware was in 1936 with the famed Aalto Vase or the Savoy Vase.

This man Alvar Aalto was a very talented Finnish furniture (finska möbler)designer along with the many glass designs he had and all of the architectural designs that flood the world it is hard to not agree with his many talents.  He was a man who loved his family and also he loved what he did.  A man with so many accomplishments that is still remembered with a great admiration years after his death can not be ignored.  He has graced this world with so many beautiful objects and we should all be thankful to him for all that he has done.  In the architectural world, the glass world, and also the world of Finnish furniture (finska möbler), Alvar Aalto is a genius and will be remembered for all that he has done over his life for all of eternity.

2008-Mar-16 - The Lamino chair and the return of Swedish furniture.

The Lamino armchair was first designed in 1956 by Yngve Ekström.  The Lamino chair (stol) is very simple in design as is most of the Swedish furniture that you will find.  It is curvy and elegant design support the back and also is very pleasant to look at.  It is hard to not fall in love with a Lamino chair (stol).

The lamino won an award for the best Swedish furniture (svenska möbler) design of the century in the year 1999.  The same Lamino chair (stol) won another award more recently in the year 2003 for the I.M.M. Cologne award for best design.  These are both very big honors and not only that but these awards were given to the Lamino chair (stol) forty and fifty years after the chair was designed.  That is a huge honor.  It is one thing to win an award when something is first designed but half a century later and then win a few awards that is just a show of genius design.

The Lamino chair (stol) is available in a number of colors.  First you can get the chair (stol) in gray, white, sand, brown or the ever popular black.  These colors blend very well with the types of woods that are typically used in the creation of the Lamino chair (stol).  The sheepskin covering is used on the chair (stol) and the ottoman that accompanies the chair (stol) itself.  The legs and the arms of the chair (stol) and the ottoman are made from natural woods.  There are several choices in the woods that you can choose.  You may find the Lamino chair (stol) made with woods such as beech, cherry, walnut, oak, or teak.  These are the wood choices for the oiled wood construction.  There is also an option for a lacquered wood.  Those come in oak, cherry or even walnut.

If you were to get a Lamino chair (stol) you would be able to mix and match all the different types of fabrics and woods for completely different looks.  This is something that is done often and with an understanding that the design will lend its elegance to any room in your home or your business.  The Lamino chairs (stol) are not only comfortable but they are very nice in design and really make a room a good room to be in.

Yngve Ekström is one of the finest designers of Swedish furniture (svensk möbler) and his many designs have lasted for many years.  With the Lamino chair (stol) winning awards decades after its conception it shows you what a brilliant man he was. When this style of Swedish furniture was popular in the sixties it was all the rage.  Now in our day Swedish furniture and all of its designs are making a very strong come back.  People all over the world are craving the Swedish design and the Swedish furniture that makes it so very special.  Designing a room around even a single piece of Swedish furniture can really enhance that room and give it a special feel of elegance that it may require.

With geniuses like Yngve Ekström and other Swedish furniture (svensk möbler) designers it is easy to see why that style was so popular forty and fifty years ago.  And it is also easy to see why their designs are once again becoming popular with today’s designers.  Swedish furniture (svensk möbler) is a timeless design element and one that can not just be thrown away.  People today are once again learning to appreciate and desire Swedish furniture (svensk möbler) and the Lamino chair (stol) is one of most appreciated.

2008-Mar-10 - Alvar Aalto a genius designer of furniture (möbler).

When discussing Finnish designers and Finnish furniture (finska möbler) we can not pass up the opportunity to speak about Alvar Aalto.  Alvar Aalto was born in Kuortane, Finland in the year 1908.  He was renowned for the Finnish furniture (finska möbler) that he designed and all of his architectural skills that he possessed.  He graduated from an architectural school in Helsinki in the year 1921. At first Alvar Aalto did not do very well in Helsinki so he moved to a smaller town to start his career off.

When he opened his offices he hired a young woman who also designed furniture (möbler) and also glass to be his assistant.  He later married this woman and they had two children together.  Apart from his rich personal life with his family Alvar Aalto also had a rich life as a furniture (möbler) designer.  He was able to get a contract to design the furniture (möbler) for six churches that were located in Finland.  This Finnish furniture (finska möbler) designer could not pass up a wonderful opportunity like that and so he took the contract and began work on one of his largest projects ever.  Throughout his career he had many great accomplishments.  Alvar Aalto is credited with his patented methods for bending wood and creating a new form of laminated bent plywood furniture (möbler).  One of his most famous furniture (möbler) designs using this bending wood process is called the Alvar Aalto 901 tea cart.  This tea cart along with many other fascinating furniture (möbler) designs allowed Alvar Aalto and several other furniture (möbler) designers to be credited with the Scandinavian Modern design of furniture (möbler).  Alvar Aalto was granted many awards over his lifetime and one such medal is actually named after him.  The Alvar Aalto Medal by the Museum o f Finnish Architecture and the Finnish Association of Architects is given to people who offer great contributions to the world of furniture (möbler).

There were so many great accomplishments that Alvar Aalto gave before his death in the year 1976.  Along with many of his architectural designs like the six churches in Finland he also designed all of the furniture (möbler) in the churches.  This is where he created his loved Aalto lamp.  This was a man of many talents that graced the furniture world with many great pieces of Finnish furniture (finska möbler).  The Aalto table (bord) was another of his great designs.  This is a table that can expand as needed and also collapse as small as it can when needed and have a range of many sizes in between.  The shear genius that the Aalto table (bord) shows should be enough for many people to see how the great mind of Alvar Aalto worked.  Along with his great accomplishments of architectural designs and also his Finnish furniture (finska möbler) he was also a teacher.  Alvar Aalto was a teacher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  He taught here in the late 1940’s.  Alvar Aalto also started a company with other designers called Artek.  This was a wonderful company that designed Finnish furniture (finska möbler) and also built the furniture (möbler).

Alvar Aalto was a very brilliant man that had much to share with the world of furniture (möbler).  And he did his very best to share all of his genius with us when he was here.  The Finnish furniture (finska möbler) that he designed decades ago is today just as modern as they were then.  His furniture (möbler) designs are timeless extending over many years and are still today used in many interior designs.

Your home furniture (hem möbler) that you choose is the most important part of any room design. It’s going to be the main selection of any room so that is why it’s the most important.

The first consideration is going to be the overall design scheme of your home. There are so many different styles of that you can choose to go with, but you are going to need to decide if you are staying with the original design or if you are going to be starting from scratch. If you are going to be starting from scratch with a totally new design than it’s going to be pretty simple but you are going to have so many different choices of style – modern, country or any of the other styles.

One of the worst problems with buying home furniture (hem möbler) is that it can be extremely expensive. So you will want to be sure that you have a budget set up. Don’t spend more than you have, you might love the furniture but you will need to sacrifice many other things.

There are many ways that you can save a great deal of money on your purchase, and you should try to save money every where that you can when you are redecorating your home because it can begin to add up quicker than you may have imagine that it would be. Shopping online is one of the best ways that you can save money, but you will need to keep an eye on the shipping cost for the furniture (möbler) that you are looking at.

But shopping online is not the only option that you have to save money on your home furniture (hem möbler) purchase you can also find many wholesale warehouses in your local area. If there isn’t one in your local area than I am sure that there will be a furniture wholesale store around your area.

One thing that you must do when you are looking to buy a new sofa for your living room is to take measurements. You don’t want to buy a new couch that are not absolutely sure that it is going to fit nicely in the room, or even fit through the door. This would be such a disaster.

You may even want to make a layout of the room to see how the different styles of couches would look in the room. This will help you to determine which couch would look the best in your shaped room. There are L-shaped couches, single couches, and so many others that you have to choose from. There are also many side tables, coffee tables and so many others that you will want to add to your living room in order to get a homey feeling.

You can find websites that will help you to design the perfect room with the perfect style. Of course you are going to need to pay some money to use the service, but it is a great way for you to find the best layout and the perfect interior design for you home, including the color of the walls to use.

Redesigning your home with your home furniture (hem möbler) is going to be amazing once you have completed it if you follow these simple things.

2008-Mar-5 - Hans Wegner a talented Danish furniture (danska möbler) designer.

Hans Wegner was quite possible one of the most talented Danish furniture (danska möbler) designers of the modern age.  Hans Wegner and his genius modern furniture designs allowed the path of Danish furniture (danska möbler) design to carve a smoother path and no longer did modern furniture have to have harsh lines and sharp edges.  Hans Wegner softened the lines in his Danish furniture (danska möbler) designs and allowed people to have a choice of designs from that point on.

Hans Wegner and his Danish furniture (danska möbler) and especially his chairs (stol) would gain plenty of popularity during the 1950’s and the 1960’s.  along with other Danish furniture (danska möbler) designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Finn Juhl and Borge Morgensen.  All of these people together changed the way that the world viewed furniture.  Many of the works that they created were often created out of soft blond woods that gave a more pleasant feel to many of the designs.

There were two great designs by the late Hans Wegner that were very popular.  One of the designs was a chair (stol) that was shown in the year 1949.  It was designed with a Y shaped back and epitomizes simplicity.  This chair (stol) is called the “Wishbone” chair and sometimes it is called the Y back chair.  It is a chair of simple elegance and comfort. This chair is still made to this day. The other chair that Hans Wegner created was also shown in the year 1949 and it was simply called the Chair or at times it was also called the Round Chair.  This is a very modern designed chair (stol) as it has a seat, a back and arm rests that are made out of one piece of continuous wood in the shape of a semi circle.  This chair (stol) or the Round Chair was actually used in a piece of history.  The Kennedy –Nixon political debate in 1960, which was the first publicly televised political debate of American history, used these chairs.  Today many of his Danish furniture designs are on display in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.  And not only are the chairs (stol) on display but some are also used in the Museum’s restaurant.

Mr. Hans Wegner was born in the year 1914 and he was the son of a cobbler.  He quickly learned his woodworking trade and in 1938 he was hired to help in the creation of the furniture of the town hall in Aarhus Denmark.  While he was doing this project he met and fell in love with his future wife.  He and his wife Inga had two daughters Marianne and Eva.  Marianne worked with her father on Danish furniture for over twenty years.  After years of creating and designing Danish furniture (danska möbler), Hans Wegner retired in the early 1990’s.  His daughter Marianne took over the every day running of his work studio after he retired.

This was a man that filled his life with the things he loved.  Those things were basically his wife and his children and of course furniture.  For a talented designer of Danish furniture (danska möbler) like Hans Wegner it would be hard to give up working with wood and creating and designing new furniture every day.  He kept up with the furniture designing and also with the creating up until his death on January 26th of the year 2006.  Hans Wegner and his work can be remembered with a great admiration.  His work can still be found today in other chairs (stol) and designs that are still being made today.

2008-Feb-26 - Using Swedish interior designs (inredning)

Swedish furniture (svenska möbler) has its very own way of being beautiful.  There are classic lines in Swedish furniture (svenska möbler) that give it all a very refined and elegant appearance.  Many people absolutely love Swedish furniture (svenska möbler) and it is very popular all over the world.

Swedish furniture was first made popular by Carl Larsson.  He was an artist who loved to paint his home and d family.  Well his home was decorated in a very fashionable style and with Swedish furniture (svenska möbler).  This is said to be one of the reasons that the loved Swedish style of decorating is so popular even today.  The theory behind Swedish style interior designs is to brighten up the home.  In Sweden there are long dark days and dreary lack of light so people tried to make everything as light as possible.  Using pale colors and airy fabrics that would help to break up the darkness of the outdoors and bring light into the home.  Swedish furniture (svenska möbler) was used to reflect the light along with the wall colorings and the floor.  People would use the lighter colors to find and reflect any light that they could.

Some elements that are used in the majority of Swedish interior design (inredning) would be very pale colors.  Using tones of creams, whites and even light blues are pretty much the basics of Swedish interior design (inredning).  These are the colors that are mostly used on walls and also the floorings.  These pale toned colors are also used in the furniture (möbler) and even a few accessories around the home.  There are also other colors that are used but they are all kept in a bright and cheery foundation.  Colors of yellow, light pinks, grays, and even light misty greens are used.  These colors are used as accent colors along with a few golds and a few reds.    The most popular colors that are used in Swedish interior design (inredning) would definitely be white and with blue following a close second.

Blue is a very popular choice of color because it invokes images of bright blue skies that cannot be seen in the winter months.  The color blue also blends very well with the other accent colors in the Swedish interior design (inredning) patterns. When considering fabric and patterns in the Swedish interior design (inredning) you will notice a lot of reds and floral or stripped prints.

The Swedish furniture (svenska möbler) is mostly made from blond woods and natural colors.  The Swedish furniture (svenska möbler) itself is all made with simple and clean lines.  The Swedish furniture (svenska möbler) that is used is all of an efficient design and there is no over accessorizing.    There is also an abundance of natural fabrics that are used in the Swedish interior design (inredning) styles.  Simple chairs and tables are used often and benches are very popular to use in Swedish interior design (inredning).  With all of these elements there is nothing that is wasted.  Space and lack of space are all used to an advantage in Swedish interior design (inredning).

By taking pale colors and clean and elegant furnishings you can really create a beautiful home that is styled after some of the most popular designed homes in the world.  Swedish interior design (inredning) has been around for many years and even though it may fade out of popularity now and again it quickly finds its way back into the homes of many people.  It is hard to not continue to use such an efficient and still very beautiful style of interior design (inredning).

2008-Feb-19 - The Lamino chair (stol) in all of it simplistic beauty.

The Lamino chair is a beautiful and yet simple specimen of Swedish home furniture (svenska hem möbler).  This elegant chair is designed to be simply comfortable and at the same time very elegant in the way that the chair looks.

The Lamino chair (stol) was created by Yngve Ekström in the year 1956.  a little bit over forty years later the Lamino chair was given an award and named “the Best Swedish Furniture Design of the Century”.  Then in the year 2003 the Lamino chair (stol) was awarded the I.M.M. Cologne Award for best design in 2003.  This chair (stol) and the design of the chair (stol) has lasted the test of time and still is in very high demand.

You can choose from a number of woods of which to make the Lamino chair (stol) in.  You can either have cherry wood, teak wood, beech wood or oak wood.  They are all very find types of wood and it really would just depend on your taste in furniture (möbler).  The Lamino chair (stol) can also be made with stained woods again depending on your tastes.  The chair itself comes with a four legged ottoman for use when maximum comfort is desired.  With the Lamino chair having so many different options you will be sure to find the right spot for it in your home and it is sure to go along with any of your pre existing furniture.  Not only can you get the Lamino chair made from a number of different types of woods but you can also have it upholstered in a number of different types of fabrics so again it will be made to compliment your existing furniture (möbler).

With so many interior designers once again going for a modern look in homes the Lamino chair (stol) is once again in high demand.  With all of its straight and clean lines it is still proving to be a wonderful chair (stol) to have in a home or business.  Not only is the chair very streamlined but it is also very comfortable.  You can have it in many different types of designed rooms but it will look its best in rooms that are uncluttered and in neutral colors providing that you had the chair done in neutral colors to begin with.

It is very hard to ruin something that is as perfect as the Lamino chair and that is why its design has lasted as long as it has.  People very much enjoy the simplicity of Swedish home furniture (svenska hem möbler).  And this is shown over and over again over the several decades since the Lamino chair (stol) was created by Yngve Ekström. Swedish home furniture (svenska hem) really can make an incredible difference in the way that your home or your business is perceived.  It offers a very clean sense and a very elegant atmosphere all at the same time and many people in fact find this kind of design welcoming and comforting.

Yngve Ekström put himself in the same league as many of the great Swedish home furniture (svenska hem möbler) designers. People like Bruno Mathsson and Hans Wegner would be proud to have Yngve Ekström and his home furniture (hem möbler) designs in the same category as themselves and their designs.  These people were brilliant with their furniture (möbler) designs and it has been noticed over all of the years since these geniuses have given us all of their wonderful home furniture (hem möbler) designs. Researching any of these great designers will prove to you that they were amazing people in their own rights and that their furniture designs were at the very least brilliant.

2008-Feb-13 - Home furniture (hem möbler) and its designers.

Home furniture (möbler) is a major point in design for many of the home furniture (hem möbler) designers.  There are such major home furniture (hem möbler) designers that have graced us with their fabulous designs for years.  Many of these home furniture (hem möbler) designers actually come from the regions of Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.

The home furniture (hem möbler) designers that come to mind the most would be such designers as Bruno Mathsson, Yngve Ekström, Alvar Aalto and Hans J. Wegner.  These are what some call the fathers of Danish designs.  There were many different types of beautiful home furniture (hem möbler) that was created by these amazing men.

Bruno Mathsson gave us the Fällbord table (bord).  This was a table (bord) that was created in the year 1935 and has many different admirers. This table (bord) was first created with supports made from birch.  The table top was produced in a laminate surface and it was also produced with an oak, beech, cherry or ash wood table top.  This table (bord) that was created by Bruno Mathsson is able to fold into a small 23 cm when it is totally collapsed.  That is an amazing feat in itself but to be able to also expand into a table that is 280 cm long when it is fully extended is also no small feat.  This is the key to Danish home furniture (hem möbler) design.  Simplicity and function all rolled into one key component.

Bruno Mathsson was extensive in his studies of how people sit for his chairs.  He would borrow books on things he was not secure in and would learn through them.  He was of course descended from a family of five generations of wood furniture makers and had his own knowledge that had been passed down from generation to generation. The knowledge he obtained from books and outside sources only enhanced his natural gifts of home furniture (hem möbler) making.

This father of design also created the Pernilla chair.  This chair was made for an easy chair or a lounge chair type of style.  There were materials that were used that actually began the organic material use in home furniture (hem möbler).  This home furniture (hem möbler) genius passed away in the year 1988 and left us with many of his brilliant designs.

Yngve Ekström was born in the year 1913 in a town in Sweden that has the longest and oldest tradition in furniture making. Yngve and his brother Jerker started the company Swedese. This home furniture (hem möbler) design company was created in the year 1945.  Yngve was an active part of the company up until his death some forty some odd years later. Among other designs he was famous for the lamino chair.

The other home furniture (hem möbler) designers all gave parts of them selves to the furniture world.  They gave years of their lives that were dedicated to making the best Swedish furniture that could possibly have been.  Many of their designs are still in use today and they are fetching quite a sum of money to obtain them.  These timeless designs are worth every penny you pay for them even now.  Not only are these home furniture (hem möbler) designs timeless but they are also very well crafted.  Wegner himself had over 500 different types of chair designs.  To find any of these home furniture (hem möbler) designs you simply must find a reputable furniture dealer and you will find exactly what you are looking for.  If you can not find a store that is local the internet is full of places where you can order any of this timeless home furniture (hem möbler) at any time.

2008-Feb-5 - Yngve Ekström and his furniture (möbler) designs

Some of the most popular home furnishings in modern times have been Scandinavian furniture (nordiska möbler).  With so many designers in the furniture field, icons such as Bruno Mathsson, Hans Wegner and Alvar Aalto, perhaps the best known would be Yngve Ekström

Yngve Ekström was born in Hagafors, Smaland, Sweden in the year 1913.  He was one of the best furniture designers of his time and for that fact of any time.  In the area where he is from there was no shortage of furniture (möbler) making.  It was surrounding him every where he went in his home town.  Yngv nordiska möbler e Ekström not only studied wood crafting and designing but he also studied academic art history and also painting, drawing and sculpting.  It is believed that all of these skills combined helped to create a phenomenal Scandinavian furniture designer.  There are many aspects of all his learned skills that transfer over into his furniture making.

In the year 1945 Yngve Ekström and his brother Jerker founded their own company called Swedese.  This is one of the most highly respected and admired makers of furniture (möbler) in the world today.  They worked for years to gain the reputation that now encompasses Swedese.  For over forty years Yngve Ekström was part of the company creating his furniture (möbler) designs and making his dreams come true.  He worked with the company up until his death.   Swedese’s furniture (möbler) designs became very popular indeed for many home interiors.  They also found their way into many a business office.  The Swedese furniture (möbler) had a style that appealed to many people.  And with their stylish designs and there wonderful workmanship it is no wonder that they were as successful as they were.

Yngve Ekström is probably best known for his design of the Lamino chair.  This is most likely the one thing that you have heard of that was designed and created by Yngve Ekström even if you have not heard of anything else that he has done.  The Lamino chair (stol)is very simplistic in design but offers a world of comfort for the user. Even though this piece of furniture (möbler) was first created in the 1950’s its design is still in use today.  As a matter of fact in the year 1999 the Lamino was named the best Swedish chair of the twentieth century. This was done by a Swedish magazine and following after that a few years later in the year 2003, the Lamino chair was awarded the Design Innovation by the I.M.M in Cologne.  This must be an excellently designed piece of furniture (möbler) if it is receiving awards over forty years after its creation.

The Lamino chair is made of several different types of wood and usually has an ottoman that accompanies the chair itself.  It is a very simplistic chair (stol) in design and is also quite versatile. This chair is not inexpensive and it is quite common to pay several thousand dollars for one.

The shear fact that this chair is still winning awards and selling at prices that are not cheap is just antoher reason why Yngve Ekström and his furniture (möbler) designs were and still are as popular as they were.  Yngve Ekström worked in his company as a designer and also leading his company for many years up until his death in 1988.  He was a loved and admired man that gave us some very beautiful artwork in the way of furniture and is very much missed even today.

2008-Jan-28 - Bruno Mathsson’s Fällbord

When speaking of world renowned furniture designers you must include Bruno Mathsson.  He is the creator of many furniture (möbler) designs and these designs have become staples in many home interior designs.  Bruno Mathsson has given us many beautiful furniture designs over the years and these design furniture have become very popular indeed.

When speaking about the man Bruno Mathsson one must mention that he grew up around wood and wood shops from the time he was a small boy.  As a young boy he had many of his chores that involved working in the family furniture and wood shops.  He had plenty of experience and comfort with all of the different tools and the wood working techniques that would later sculpt not only his design furniture but also the man himself.

Being a creative man he found ways to educate himself in different ways.  He would order books and learn from experts many questions and would find his answers in places that were not readily available to him where he lived.  He eventually acquired all of the skills he needed to help him create his first pieces of furniture earning him awards and recognition.  He later used these awards for his furniture to help pay for his formal education.

Bruno Mathsson is known widely for his many furniture designs.  He has created many computer desks, daybeds and plenty of different tables.  His most well known table is probably the Fällbord.  This table is known world wide as a elegant and yet functional piece of furniture. The Fällbord table is a table that was manufactured in the year 1935.  Originally it was made of birch wood legs and then the top was usually made with other woods such as beech, cherry, ash or oak.  The table was sometimes made with a white laminate surface instead.  This Fällbord was made to be converted to a much smaller item.  You can either use this table as a small table able to convert to a small 23 cm, or you can use the table to its largest form of 280cm in length. At its longest outstretched length the table can be used for large dinners and many family memories. The Fällbord could also be changed to any size in between these two extremes.  This table is extremely versatile in its design making it a wonderful piece of furniture.

Later on his furniture designing career, Bruno Mathsson started to use other materials besides wood to construct his creations.  He would use things like metal and other synthetic materials in his designs.  These furniture designs were quite impressive and very popular.  Although he had great success with these more modern of furniture designs, Bruno Mathsson will probably always be best known for his Fällbord that was created early on in his career.

As it is with such wonderfully gifted designers, you can still find Bruno Mathsson’s furniture designs all over the world and in many different interior design books.  These pieces of art work that were created by geniuses in the furniture world can still be found as basis for new designers works today.  Furniture designers today love to use his ideas and try to enhance them if they could possibly do so.  Many of his designs are still in use today.   Finding pieces of furniture today that are based on Bruno Mathsson’s designs is very easy.  When something is as good as his designs they do not fade away so very easily at all.

2008-Jan-20 - Hans J Wegner and other designers of Danish furniture

Clean and straight forward designs are the usually trademarks of Danish furniture.  Danish furniture (Danska möbler) has fans of many lands.  People who love the clean lines and simple elegance of Danish furniture tend to know a few of the Danish furniture designers.  One of those designers was Hans J Wegner.

Hans J Wegner was a Danish designer who died recently in February of the year 2007.  This very talented man designed over five hundred chairs in his lifetime.  His work was no exception to the traditional trademarks of Danish furniture.  This man who was born in Tonger, Denmark in the year 1914 was probably one of the most recognized and most successful furniture designers of Denmark.  He graced the Danish furniture market with many of his wonderful designs for many years and people who truly love the Danish furniture look then they would surely respect this man as a classic designer.

One of his basic thought processes when it came to furniture (möbler) was that there should be no “back” to the chair.  That means that from what ever way you looked at the chair there should not be a back seen anywhere, it should just be a fluid structure. Another of Hans J Wegner’s design was the ch 25 chair.  This chair was constructed of wood and rope and created in the year 1950.  This ch 25 chair was designed with woven seats and a woven back for Carl Hanson and Son.  The chair was created with the front legs holding most of the support in the chair.  The back legs were angled and this design works much better than those that were created from a similar design.  There were many types of wood that were used in this chair and many types of paper ropes,  this design of Danish furniture (Danska möbler) is sometimes compared to wicker furniture but the wicker furniture is a much less quality type of chair.

Over the many years that Denmark has created furniture there have been many different types of very skilled designers.  Hans J Wegner will forever be considered a great engineer in Danish furniture design.  His ch 25 is now valued at around $2000 which may seem like it is quite expensive but in truth the chair is worth every cent that it costs.

From the designers that have created many of the great Danish furniture (Danska möbler) we have learned that straight simple lines and elegant comfort works well in most of the rooms that you would put the furniture in.  These Danish furniture designs are wonderful for many different styles of design.  With so many wonderful designers of Danish furniture it is easy to see why so many people today and years before have loved the designs of great furniture makers like Hans J Wegner.

Danish furniture can be used in many different types of decorating designs and they furniture that can be used is also typically quite comfortable and satisfying to use.  These styles can be used in many modern designs as well as many other designed rooms.  Danish furniture is both functional and also very comfortable at the same time.  Some may think that Danish furniture (Danska möbler) is not comfortable at all by the way that it looks but that is far from the truth.  Many Danish designers have made plenty of wonderfully comfortable furniture and people today truly treasure much of Danish furniture.

About Me

Scandinavian design has set the standard internationally in the furniture industry and this was largely achieved in the post-war era when Scandinavian countries were relatively poor. This inspired a great deal of inventiveness as Scandinavians had to be very creative in using whatever materials they could get their hands on.
